At Smith College you are expected to attend all classes except in the case of sickness and dire personal emergency. For example, picking up your mother or a friend at the airport, or your car breaking down and having to take it to the mechanic’s or dealer are both examples of “non-emergencies”. If you miss class for whatever reason (good or bad) you are entirely and wholly responsible for making any necessary arrangements to obtain material covered in class (lecture notes, handouts, video, etc.).
For this reason, I strongly suggest you make arrangements to find and use a ‘homework buddy” – someone who can video or record or take notes for you in case of absence. I will not be responding to any “what did I miss” or “what will I miss” communications, as taking responsibility for managing workload is a normal expectation for college life.
If you are going to miss class for any reason, it is a normal expectation to email the instructor 24 hours prior (where possible), as numbers may affect the planning of group learning activities.
