Psychological Skill Use & Flow: Are They Related?

To answer this question, our class is going to replicate Jackson et al.’s 2001 study with our own data.  Each student is going to complete the Flow State Scale (FSS-2) referencing their “best-ever” performance in sport, and then complete the Test of Performance Strategies (TOPS) which assesses use of mental skills.

In their study, Jackson et al. (2001) used fairly complicated statistical procedures – in ours we will use statistics available to us in Excel spreadsheets (Correlation, ANOVA) with the help of Tom Laughner.
Tom is the Director of Educational Technology Services at Smith College.

Methodology

Step 1: Complete the FSS-2 (instructions can be found here), score it, and send your results to Tim in an Excel spreadsheet named “lastname.FSS.xls”.

Step 2:  Complete the TOPS (instructions can be found here), score it, and send your results to Tim in an Excel spreadsheet named “lastname.TOPS.xls”.

Step 3: In class, we will perform basic statistics using the functions available to us in Excel.
